The Write Idea LLC
WHO'S THE EDITOR?
The editor-in-chief and owner of The Write Idea LLC is Jenny Garden.
Jenny formed The Write Idea, a loosely affiliated group of writer-editors, while on the job with an
advertising agency in Chicago. Later relocating to Kirkland, Washington, she worked for several years
with a Bellevue, Washington, advertising group, followed by a stint with a book publisher in Colorado.
In 1996, she returned to Washington State and settled in Seattle, where she lives and works.Jenny is an eagle-eyed editor who brings imagination and intuition to the art of copyediting.
She has honed her skills in every area of printed text, including fiction and nonfiction manuscripts,
magazine and journal articles, newsletters, brochures, advertising copy, catalogs, and Web text.
It is from this extensive background of knowledge and experience that
Jenny draws the resources and flexibility to serve a broad range of
clients with highly specific needs.Of course, Jenny demonstrates the typical proofreading skills expected of every copy editor:
the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and colorfully
superior proficiency in grammar, syntax, and punctuation
meticulous attention to detailJenny accomplishes all this not only in American style, but also in
Canadian and British (International) styles, when desired.
Jenny is familiar with medical, scientific, and legal terminology, as well as
references to music, theater, and the visual arts. And she can render
smooth, understandable, and readable any manuscript, including technical, by
writers for whom English is a second language. But she does much more, from
soup-to-nuts formatting (Where did that pesky footnote go?)
to checking every reference (Exactly when do the swallows return to Capistrano?)
to conforming facts and figures (If the graph shows that 60 percent of office workers
develop colds in February, why does the text say that it's two out of every five?)
to discovering that the heroine who is slim on page 10 is too plump to zip up on the same day, two pages later. In short, Jenny does what every good copy editor should do:
She makes your writing publishable.
